Day 115

Rainy day. Slept for 12 hours.
Had a chat with my best friend. We talk rarely, but truly. He was rhe one that pushed me to do all the paperwork and make it in time to get the green card.
After doing another set of photos decided to work. But one russian guy arrived back from his trip to Bahamas. So there went my night…

image

The guy has wife and kids in Moscow and he’s here alone. And going wild with girls in Bahamas. Cocaine and cheap(but beautiful) prostitutes, that’s what attracts guys from all over the world.
We went in search for a bar but the russian guy was not let in because he didn’t have his id. Same mistake I have made in the past. In USA you can be 70years old but clubs still can’t let you in or sell alcohol without an ID. Just grabbed pizza and went to sleep.

Day 114

Worked 6 hours. Processed another bunch of photos. Again nothing really great.
In the evening talked to some girls from Croatia, Austria and Germany. They requested that I play my music as I do everyday. Where is my tip box?

Day 113

Woke up early though I went to sleep late. Finished some photos and started work. Kinda. Beaing really tired and lazy worked just 4 hours.
It was my check out time but the owner said I can stay at the hostel for another week if I wish. Of course I enjoy the confort of not moving anywhere.
One thing I hate about Miami and Florida in general – there are lots of gigantic cockroaches!

Nothing entertaining today.

Day 112

Spent 21 hours sorting photos. I found another Sd card with 3300 photos so its total around 11000 photos. Went to sleep at 7.30am AFTER breakfast and coffee.. I kinda enjoy going to sleep after coffee, it gives me strong dreams lol.
Skipped work as I just have to finish those photos. And I am still sick from the texas cold.
We were supposed to go on sailboat ride today with the dude I met yesterday but the guys stayed late in the clubs and returned only in the morning so everyone just went to sleep. Daily visits to sushi and South Vape, all day sorting photos and sleep.
Good photos :)

Day 111

Sorting pictures from 3pm to 3am.
Thats it. 7000 photos.
Oh met a guy at hostel, his cousin with different last name has been an employee at United airlines for over 10 years and listed this guy as his homosexual partner. And United doesnt really use ID travel, there is some loyalty program and this guy travels all around states for free and across the world for dirt cheap – Japan return ticket first class is 57 USD. And his cousin is not a pilot and doesnt have to be on the flight. Talk about work benefits eh?

Day 110

Time to get home.
The AC has been off for 3 days and still its cold. The motel is cold everywhere. Outside was 19 degrees Celsius, much better than inside.
Everybody had left so I needed to get to airport but I didnt want to waste 50 bucks for taxi. I tried hitchhiking and some lady stopped. She rook me almost to the airport, I just had to walk some 15 minutes.

image

I ended up in a train station near my terminal. I still had 4 hours til the flight so I went adventures – took the train to Dallas!
Public transportation is nice there and Dallas is a cute city!

but this freaked me out – there are no people in Dallas!!!! no traffic! In my 40 minute walk I saw less than 100 people. It’s really scary..
Rushed back to airport and flew back to Florida.

image

My nose is running like hell, I feel terrible, cant wait to get back to Miami!
After the slow unloading from plane I am finally out and its 80 degrees, omg, this is like the best feeling in the world!

image

Texted my national friend and she and her husband came to the airport to pick me up yay! Back to BedsnDrinks, a cup of beer and sleeeep.. unless I got shocked. Walking in my roim was like the worst nightmare, it was freezing cold and AC set to 60 degrees. Wtf. Set it to 76 and went outside to work on photos for a few hours.

Day 109. Drift finals

Race day is here. In the schedule the first meeting by 2pm, so I just chilled in the motel. Still cold.

image

Turns out the teams had unannounced practice so I missed out on shooting time.
Since I was kicked off from the Nascar track but still wanted to be different, I walked around and annoyed people if I could get up in their buildings around the circuit. I found out there is some kind of Texas Motor Speedway tour that takes around the racetracks and up to the suites. I arranged that they pick me up just after my media meeting and camera setup. The tour was nice, driver talked about history etc. I expected a better view, but still good:

Overall it was a great day and the event ended by 11pm.

After event we hung out at the track. I talked to the winner of event while we were just drinking beer in a small company outside their team truck. Everybody is friendly, many people know each other, those who dont still act like they do. Like a friendly group of people I was used to hang out with in my country its just that here tjey travel with planes to meet. And still a lot of guys shoot pictures for free. Like me. Which is kinda sad.
To add some drama – the guy who took me to the motel with his car (today and 2 days ago) actually used to work with the official photographer of event who gave me a drive yesterday. Turns out now they’re kinda enemies because of work.
I have caught a cold here..

Day 108

Woke up freezing. I set the AC off but still its cold. And outside is raining.
I walked to the track on foot which took 20 minutes but it is terribly cold. Good thing I bought a better quality rain pancho. Also wrapped the camera in a cutout of regular plastic pancho. Day was horribly cold for a Florida guy in a tshirt and pancho.
I wanted to make great shots but the locations we could shoot from were limited. I saw open entrances to the Nascar track and no cars around, so I went up the track. Woah the banks of the oval are so steep!

image

Texas Motor Speedway

Did a few good shots and went further to get better angle.

image

After about 10 minutes some truck drove on the track and stopped by me. The guy said I cannot be there as there can be cars on it any time. Common sense tells me that no professional circuit lets racecars drive fast before checking track for safety. The guy let me take a few more shots though. After I was done I went down and some event official started to yell at me that they want to stop the race just because of me. After the qualifying runs were over the media director came up to me. He told that track owners want them to take my media pass away because what I did he explained is way beyond just breaking the rules. Well yes I forgot the event didn’t rent the whole speedway but just the infield. It was a big mistake. But after a longer talk he said I can keep my media pass as long as I follow the rules. I got lucky :)
After the race day was over and most of the teams I run for had to quit the race I stayed in media room wditing photos. I stayed there late with the event official photographer which is known in the industry. Also hated a lot because of his status and VIP treatment and opportunities to travel and get paid. He had to lock the media building, we had a talk and he gave me a ride to the motel in his car. Seems like I am the only person who didn’t rent a car for the event. Yeah people are paid more and use comfort much more here in USA.
I worked on photos and chatted with a Florida girl. She was a bit high on cocaine and sent me a couple naked pics. I don’t even know what to say – fun and sad at the same time.

Day 107

Got to the airport. The security guy did a real good check on my bag for drugs. No worries, got on the plane.

Fort Lauderdale aerial view

Looks like it’s going to be a bad weather in Texas

image

Landing in Texas doesnt bring a nice view. Its raining.

Got a yellow cab to the motel6, checked in and went to the track. Finally!

image

Got to media meeting, day was hot and I did some nice shots.

image

Got to know some other photographers, after event we went to eat at a place where servants ride around on roller skates, then back to motel, finally get some sleep after 48hours. I just passed out at some random moment while working on photos.

Day 106

The girl Ive been talking a lot to lately is native american which kinda brings up a caution flag. We could meet up at the beach while she was around yesterday, but we didnt, so I took the risk to play the uncomfortable questionary and yeah, turns out she visited her ex for some financial help. Good to know, I was paying too much attention to her, better lock in friendzone, I do appreciate the honesty. I can’t stress enough how impossible in Miami it is to meet a nice girl that is single and with no drama.
Worked my hours at sushi and went back to get ready for Texas. I am renting camera body from a guy in local car club. I guess I should have rented online, because his camera doesnt have a strap and also no kit lens to shoot close shots. Also the hotshoe for flashlight is broken, I bought some parts to set up a steady holder for phone so i can take pics with the camera and take a steady 4k phone video at the same time. Now I am quite limited to the 70-200 vr2 lens.

image

I thought I would go sleep early. But after all the stuff I had to prepare I didnt go to sleep at all.
Bought some necessities at walgreens and CVS (they’re 24/7) took a shower and took the bus to airport.
